Depression Forums and Group Therapy -
It Works!
After several individual sessions with your counselor,
you might be asked to join a depression forum.
Find out why group therapy works.
Depression forums give you a chance to work out feelings and identify behaviors with persons who suffer from the same mood disorders as you do.
These therapy groups are great for comparing depression symptoms, evaluating the results of your current depression medication, and finding solution oriented ways to live with depression.
Two heads are better than one, as they say, and a group encounter can give you hope, or at least remind you that you are not alone.
Depression forums are closely monitored by a counselor present in the room during the entire hour. These trained mental health professionals will keep the discussion on track and monitor any problems or concerns the group might have.
They are also trained to pull real feelings out of the group members and work toward alleviating symptoms and getting down to the root causes of depression.
You will also learn about group dynamics and how you relate to other people.
The support you can find in depression forums will give you something to look forward to each week, and may inspire you to work on issues outside of the group setting.
Most people who enter group therapy have seen their counselors in individual sessions prior to entering a depression forum and have progressed to the point where their counselor feels that interaction with others can speed their recovery.
It is important to enter a depression forum with an open mind.
You will most likely not get along with everyone, and no one expects you to, but you must be tolerant of others problems, and be able to speak your mind.
Sitting off to the side and refusing to participate weakens the group therapy experience for everyone, and trust becomes an issue.
Armed with this knowledge, you will be able to make the most of your depression forum experience.
